6 Tips for Engraving Gifts

Posted on

It is great to be able to personalise your gift but if you think carefully about engraving gifts, it will go from being a much appreciated thought to a truly inspired choice! As well as including a personalised coat of arms, here are a few tips to consider. Our full collection of crystal is available to view here.

1. Think carefully about the choice of wording.

For example, when engraving gifts, would Dad prefer a traditional message such as ‘Happy 70th birthday Dad’ or something with a comical twist ‘Dad – 70 years of being the centre of attention!’

2. Consider using quotes.

If you search online, you will find many good sites offering inspiration. For example, if you are considering something for a gardening enthusiast, you could consider something like this: ‘The love of gardening is a seed which once sown, never dies’ (Gertrude Jekyll).

3. Use quotes in another language for extra intrigue.

For example, a quick online search will lead to plenty of websites with funny latin phrases. If you are engraving gifts such a crystal whisky tumbler, you could consider ‘Re vera, potas bene’ which translates as ‘You sure are drinking a lot!’ Purchasing a crystal tankard to hang in the recipient’s local pub? What about ‘Mihi ignosce. Cum homine de cane debeo congredi’, which translates as ‘Excuse me. I’ve got to see a man about a dog’.

4. Would your gift benefit from an image or logo?

This is especially true if you are engraving gifts like a plaque as an award and want to make sure that your corporate image is clearly visible.

5. Consider the design of the crystal itself

Many crystal gifts are pre-cut with special designs to give a traditional or modern appearance, so it is important to consider the personal taste of the recipient. For example, would they like a feminine  twist, or something more plain, simple and classic?

6. Above all, keep your recipient in mind.

They are sure to love your choice of gift, follow our simple tips and you can give a present that will be cherished for years to come.
