National Brothers’ Day!

Posted on

Today marks National Brothers’ Day, a day to celebrate everything good (and bad!) about having a brother as a sibling.

May 24th is the day to celebrate brothers!

If you’ve got a brother, you’re bound to have memories of all those childhood squabbles. Love him or hate him, today is the day to celebrate your brother. Put those differences aside and take some time out to think about just how much you really (secretly!) mean to each other. Maybe your brother played a pivotal role in the person you have become today?

Some thought-provoking quotes for National Brothers’ Day

“I don’t believe an accident of birth makes people sisters or brothers. It makes them siblings, gives them mutuality of parentage. Sisterhood and brotherhood is a condition people have to work at.”

Maya Angelou

“The younger brother must help to pay for the pleasures of the elder.”

Jane Austen

“We have flown the air like birds and swum the sea like fishes, but have yet to learn the simple act of walking the earth like brothers.”

Martin Luther King Jnr.

“It snowed last year too: I made a snowman and my brother knocked it down and I knocked my brother down and then we had tea.”

Dylan Thomas

How would you sum up your relationship with your own brother. Furthermore, is that even possible?

When did it originate?

National Brother’s Day has been celebrated on May 24th since the year 2005. It’s early origins are American: Although the exact details of the holiday are unknown, it was Alabama-based C. Daniel Rhodes who had first organised the holiday and its proceedings. Now it seems that the UK is also picking up on the trend. It seems great to celebrate all things family after the last few years, wouldn’t you agree!

In fact, there are now many other countries around the world who also acknowledge the day. For example Australia, Asian countries like India, and European countries like France and Germany all celebrate brothers on May 24th.
